Michael Derrah is an award winning Storyboard Artist, Illustrator, and Designer with experience working on Tier A Feature Films and Television projects. With an impressive background in the film industry, Michael has contributed to internationally renowned productions such as Game of Thrones (HBO), The Handmaid’s Tale (MGM HULU), Star Trek: Strange New Worlds (CBS) for multiple seasons, as well as the highest grossing horror film of all time, IT: Chapters One & Two (Warner Bros.) and it’s prequel series IT: Welcome to Derry (HBO). Michael's talent and dedication have recently earned him a prestigious Directors Guild of Canada Award for his work on David Cronenberg’s Crimes of the Future (Neon) as concept illustrator. Michael has also frequently collaborated with Guillermo Del Toro on Cabinet of Curiosities (Netflix), The Strain (FX) and Frankenstein (Netflix), for which he won the Art Director’s Guild Award along with a second Director’s Guild of Canada Award.
In addition to his work in film, Michael has also contributed to the advertising industry by illustrating the Nokia commercial tie-in for the upcoming James Bond film, No Time To Die (MGM) and Apple x DUA LIPA as well as creating concepts and key frames for DUA LIPA’s 2025 world tour stage production.
Recently, Michael has worked with Panos Cosmatos on the upcoming Flesh of the Gods (A24), after working with him previously on The Viewing (Netflix).
Michael began his career in film by co-directing and storyboarding two feature length test films for an Amazon Studios spec film contest, both of which won the "best feature length film" category. Michael holds an Honors Bachelor of Arts in Classical Animation Filmmaking and is a member of the Directors Guild of Canada as 1st Assistant Art Director since 2015. His diverse experience and exceptional skills make him a valuable addition to any creative team.
Michael is also a Writer/Director, having co-directed his debut short horror film D E I F I E D (2026).
